Unkillable Plant: Planting Lithop Seeds

I’ve fallen for succulent plants especially Lithop, Gibbaeum, Lapidaria margaretae and Conophytum which have unique shapes. They looks so gorgeous. I wanted to buy fully grown Lithops (living stone Plant) online but I couldn’t find a good one. So I bought a Lithop kit for £13.50 from Ohh Deer.

A lot of people say Lithop is an unkillable plant. Lithops can store water for months so it doesn’t need regular watering and much care. I just need to water them only when the soil is thoroughly dry.

The kit contains

-1 x Packet of living stone seeds.
-Instructions and tips included.
-Starter growing pots.
-Natural coconut husk compost discs.
-Wooden plant markers.

It’s just a short introduction. It doesn’t explain how to use the compost discs so I just poured water on the discs and mixed it with a wooden stick.

Apparently, the correct way to use the compost disc is to put it in luke-warm water and let it soak but I think it’s all the same. Add some water and wait until it’s fully expanded.

These are Lithop seeds. When I opened the packet, I thought it was empty but realised that the dust looking particles are the seeds.

There are around 11 seeds.

I carefully put the seeds on the soaked soil. I’m not even sure whether I put the seeds in properly or not. It’s too small to check.

I covered the pots like in the picture. They will germinate in around two to 12 weeks.

It’s time to wait (again) !

Jade Plant Water Propagation : First Try

This is my first proper attempt at propagating the Jade Plant. I tried propagation without any knowledge a week ago. I cut the plants and put them into water straight away but I felt like something wasn’t right so I searched about water propagation on Google and it says I need to wait for a few days after cutting plant.

After taking a cut of the Jade plant, you need to wait until the ends of the cut to dry out and form a callus. It’ll prevent rotting of the Jade plant. So I took it out of the water and let it dry. I’m not sure if it’s going to be okay or not because I had already put them into water. Anyway I gave it a go.

People says the Jade plant can be propagated in either water or soil. Also it’s one of the best plants to start with if you’re inexperienced at propagation. I’m trying both water and soil methods. I put two cuttings of the plant in water and one in soil. In the right conditions, it usually takes 2-3 weeks to form roots but I don’t think my house has the right conditions for plants. So it’ll probably take longer than that. I need to be very patient.

I found out that there are so many plant care supplies. Plant rooting hormone is one of the supplies I got to know while searching about plant propagation. It helps your plant to grow root faster and more successfully. I don’t have this product now but I’m thinking about getting this one.

Anyways, it’s time to wait!
